Yevgeniy Levich
Name: Yevgeniy Levich
School: CAS
Major: Journalism/economics.
Why are you here?
Prague was the cheapest [study abroad site], has good journalism classes, and is close to the Ukraine, but I haven’t found any cheap, direct flights yet.
Since you’ve been in Prague, what has freaked you out?
I was out with people looking for food when we rounded the corner and saw two men running with a purse being chased by a woman. I wish we’d stopped them but there were two of them.
Describe your previous publishing experience.
I was the layout editor for my high school paper and wrote a few articles for the Washington Square News.
What are a few of your favorite newspapers, magazines, blogs, podcasts, etc.?
I read the Daily Beast and I like the BBC for news. I also follow SlashFilm and listen to The Bugle podcasts.
What is your dream job?
I have no idea. I want to write but I’m never committed enough. Maybe I’d like to own a bar like the Alamo Draft House Theater, where you can order food and drinks from your seat during a movie.
What languages do you speak?
I speak Russian really well. I’m sort of rough with the grammar and writing, but can read perfect. I find myself cursing in it a lot.
Where do you want to travel this semester?
I’d like to go, as I already said, to the Ukraine. Also London, Budapest, and Berlin.
What do you have an irrational enthusiasm for?
Politics. I get really angry and belligerent about politics. I just went through a really militant atheist phase as well.
What’s something one couldn’t learn about you on Facebook?
I have no favorites listed on there; so movies, music, and all of that. Also, maybe that I lost three great-grandfathers in World War II and lost a great uncle in Stalin’s purges.
What do you know that I don’t?
Who Warren Ellis is. He’s an old British movie writer and has a graphic novel series about new wave journalism. I follow his blog.
If you could pick anywhere in the world, where would be your dream place to live?
Maybe on the west coast … San Francisco, maybe. Or Austin. I’d like to be somewhere with a stable climate for once!
