What has freaked you out the most about Prague so far?
I haven’t really been that freaked out because I didn’t come with expectations. Prague is similar to everywhere I’ve been without being anything like anywhere I’ve been, if that makes sense. Everywhere is essentially the same.
In what way?
Like seeing shawarma — I didn’t expect to see that outside of Cairo, but there it is. And the metro is the same in Washington D.C. and in Prague and in Cairo.
So what has been different about Prague?
The way Czech people are quietly open. Their fashion sense and the way they present themselves is so open and interesting, but they’re also reserved.
What brought you to Prague?
My adviser recommended that I check out this program, and when I asked someone who had been in it, everything she had to say was positive. Usually people say “It was great, but…” But about NYU in Prague there was no “but.” The girl just gushed about it for 45 minutes.
What kind of media experience do you have?
I worked at the school newspaper in high school, and I blogged about my summer in Cairo for Duke. This semester I’m blogging for Rollinglobe.
What is your favorite media source?
The Economist and BBC News.
What is your dream job?
I want to be on the editorial board of an awesome magazine or newspaper, like The Economist. I want to be involved in the news, but not necessarily write it, so I would love to be in publishing or editing.
What’s one thing you know that I don’t?
Arabic.
What’s something I couldn’t learn from your Facebook page?
That I have three adopted brothers whom my mom took in. And that I really wanted to be a dolphin trainer when I was a kid.
What are you irrationally enthusiastic about?
Traveling to places that aren’t in Western Europe! Also, socks. I get really excited when people get me socks.
