Caitlin Shapiro
Name: Caitlin Shapiro
School: RIT
Major: Journalism
Year: Senior
Why are you here?
I wanted to go somewhere with nobody else from RIT. I have friends at the other NYU study abroad sites and I’d heard that they were good but I wanted to go somewhere where I didn’t already know people.
Since you’ve arrived in Prague what has freaked you out?
I live in Jurosiva and there are lots of windows in my dorm that face adjacent buildings with lots of windows as well. I wouldn’t really care but the windows don’t have shades so that kind of freaks me out.
What is your previous publishing experience?
I wrote for the the RIT magazine, the Reporter, and for Innovation News, a weekend magazine that provides real-time reporting updates on campus events.
What are your favorite media sources?
I like Al-Jazeera because I think they have the least biased reporting. I also follow CNN and BBC.
What is your dream job?
To write for Conde Nast Traveler or Spa Magazine so I can bring my mom with me. I don’t think that she’d want to be on the front lines with me.
What languages do you speak?
Only English. I can converse with a cab driver in Italian occasionally.
What are you enthusiastic about?
Making my bed and cooking steak medium. I hate when people say that they can cook steak and then they don’t cook it right.
What won’t I learn about you from your Facebook page?
I have a really bitchy side. Also, I’m super OCD about a lot of things.
What do you know that I don’t?
Your shoes should usually match your purse.
What types of things are you super OCD about?
Making my bed. I remake my bed constantly. I have a very specific way of getting into my bed that keeps things tidy. I’m also very particular about filling a cup with ice. I drink everything with lots of ice and if there is too much space between the cubes I pour them out and start again.
Cait,
There are no spa’s on the front line, so doing both could be a problem.
I miss you and hope that you are well.
Steve
