The student council of NYU in Prague is planning several events to soothe homesick students during the fall semester.

In addition to a Thanksgiving feast in November, the council is also coordinating a Halloween Party October 31 at the Vysmátý Zajíc club in Old Town.

“There will be tons of candy,” Co-President Sydney Stanback. “People will have the ability to choose the music that they want to hear, and of course costumes are heavily encouraged.”

The Halloween and Thanksgiving events will be open to students at NYU and other universities in Prague.

The student council’s five officers and three representatives took office in September. The council has a CZK 30,000 ($1,584) budget – equal to last semester’s student council budget – for this semester’s activities.

First on the to-do list was revamping the council’s structure, appointing committees, rather than individual members, to coordinate each event.

Among other events the student council plans for the fall semester are a karaoke night October 11 at the Globe and a Roma music concert.

Earlier this semester the student council hosted the September 21 Invisible Exhibition – an art exhibit which explored the senses of scent, sound and touch – and a September 26 fondue party.

For more details on this and other upcoming student council events, keep an eye on the NYU in Prague Facebook page as well as the Prague Wanderer.

The student council meets every week at 8 p.m. on a rotating schedule between the four NYU dorms. All are welcome to attend.
